Explore the newest exhibit at your Science Center, Megawatt! This interactive exhibit will help you explore the science behind electricity production throughout Michigan! Understand the relationship between the choices we make in energy production and the impact those choices have on the environment around us. What will the future of electricity production in Michigan look like? In Megawatt, you can decide!
Megawatt is proudly supported by the Consumers Energy Foundation and the Michigan Arts & Culture Council.
Explore the electromagnetic spectrum and test different light sources, lenses, prisms and mirrors, and more! Step up to our life-size Light Mosaic to create your own colorful masterpiece, then strike a post at the Shadow Wall. You can see how plasma reacts to a conductor and experiment with primary colors!
What does the world look like through the eyes of a naturalist? Explore the natural environments of Michigan while never setting foot outside the Science Center! With a variety of new technological tools, challenge your thinking skills as you get up close and personal with living systems, just like a naturalist in the field!
What types of structures can you build? How does gravity, tension, and compression affect your structure? Get ready to become an engineer as you build with a variety of materials. Build Zone features magnetic Panelcraft, bridge building, blocks, and more! This exhibit promotes team building and problem solving. What will you create together?
Take a deeper look at the inner workings of the human mouth! Explore oral health with giant dental tools, get up close to real teeth under microscope, see MRI images to watch the mechanics of your mouth, visit the Smart Mart to discover how the food you eat affects your teeth in an interactive grocery checkout activity, and more!
Where does the energy come from to launch a ball through the air? Experiment with kinetic and potential energy using air cannons, trebuchets, and bottle rockets as your tools! Explore launching and catapulting with high-energy activities that integrate new technology.
Part outdoor education space, part art installation, part place to contemplate the universe, the Planet Walk Plaza brings us closer together and helps us create more meaningful connections to art and science within greater Lansing.

Experience the wonder of nuclear science in this new interactive exhibit that explores atoms and their journeys of acceleration, collision, separation, and detection in simulated environments that illustrate the research happening now at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) at Michigan State University.
Built entirely here at the Science Center, this exhibit also explores a variety of jobs and skillsets that make the research at FRIB possible. It also features Isotopolis, an exploratory game about the process of discovering rare isotopes. In the game, players accelerate particles and assemble new isotopes in the effort to complete the table of nuclides in a process inspired by what goes on at the nanoscopic level within a particle accelerator. Learn more and download Isotopolis here!
The research that will happen at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams will transform nuclear science. Check out this video to learn more.
SMASH: A Nuclear Adventure is generously sponsored by TechSmith; Michigan State University's Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science; MSU Federal Credit Union; and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.
